Fertility Issues Become the Discussion of the FKK UMJ Mini Symposium
The faculty of Medicine and Health Muhammadiyah University of Jakarta (FKK UMJ) held a Mini-Symposium with the theme A to Z Fertility Problems online via Zoom Meeting, Saturday (23/9/23).
Fertility is defined as a person's natural ability to get pregnant. However, this situation is not easy for everyone, because they have different levels of excitement. Fertility levels will be seen when a couple has an inability to produce a pregnancy naturally, which is called infertility. This was discussed in the FKK UMJ Mini Symposium.
Dean of FKK UMJ, Dr. Dr. Muhammad Fachri, Sp.P, FAPSR., FISR., in his speech said that fertility is one of the health problems closest to society. Therefore, dr. Fachri welcomed this series of events because discussions about fertility issues in Indonesia would be thoroughly discussed with the resource persons.
"I really welcome this Mini Symposium, because this health problem (Fertility) often occurs in society," said Fachri.
FKK UMJ presented three speakers, namely the Head of the FKK UMJ Study Program, Dr. Dr. Tri Ariguntar W, Sp. PK, Indonesian Child Adrology Specialist Fertility Clinic, dr. Mira Krishtania, Sp. And, and Lecturer in the FKK UMJ Medicine Study Program (Prodi), dr. Diah Sartika Sari, SP.OG (KFER). Moderated by the UMJ FKK Study Program Lecturer, Dr. Devi Marischa Malik, Sp. OG (KFER).
The first resource person and Head of the UMJ FKK Study Program, Dr. Dr. Tri Ariguntar W, Sp. PK, at the beginning, said that discussing fertility, especially sperm analysis, is a competency that must be possessed by medical students.
"This is one of the competencies for undergraduate medical education students, namely the issue of infertility regarding sperm analysis. "So to increase knowledge of these competencies, we created a Mini Symposium," said Tri.
Furthermore, he explained that the prevalence of infertility in Indonesia is estimated at around 10-12% or 4-6 million couples out of 39.8 million couples of childbearing age. Infertility can be caused by disorders of the reproductive system in men and women. This sperm analysis is specifically for men, while the examination of women is more hormonal. Tri explains in his material that sperm analysis is carried out in pre-analytic, analytical and post-analytic stages to avoid misdiagnosis.
The second resource person, Andrology Specialist, discussing sperm analysis and its role in treating male infertility problems. In his narrative, dr. Mira explained that sperm analysis must be done correctly, this is to provide appropriate treatment. Therefore, this situation must also be supported by certification and accreditation for laboratories and staff. Moreover, sperm analysis is an important basis for identifying infertility problems in men. In her material, Mira explains the stages of Anamnesis,Physical Examinations, The Sperm Test, Other Examinations (Laboratory and Imaging Examinations), Male interfaith treatments (Prescriptions, Procedures, Assisted Reproductive Technology), and Semen Analysis.
The third resource person who is also a lecturer at FKK UMJ, Dr. Diah Sartika Sari, SP.OG (KFER), explained fertility problems in women. He mentioned cases of interfaith in women including ovulatory problems, permeability of the tubes, cervical mucus problems, uterine abnormalities , and other cases. Not only that, cases of infidelity also occur due to the lifestyle of both men and women, such as caffeine consumption, physical activity, drug consumption, high scrotal temperature , anxietyor depression, and nutrition.
Finally, he said that women's fertility is influenced by many factors, especially age. Age will affect the quantity and quality of egg cells. Of course, awareness in handling problems appropriately has a big influence on women's fertility.
This Mini Symposium was attended by lecturers, students and the FKK UMJ academic community.
