UMJ FKM Students Participate in International Energy Conference

 Student from the faculty of Public Health,University of Muhammadiyah Jakarta (FKM UMJ)  mengikuti kegiatan Konferensi Energi Internasional (IEC), di Hotel JS Luwansa, 15-16 September 2023. Kegiatan digelar menjelang Pertemuan Menteri Energi ASEAN (AMEM) ke-41, Koordinator Kerja Sama Energi di bawah Sekretariat Ketua ASEAN 2023 bekerja sama dengan Purnomo Yusgiantoro Centre (PYC).

A total of five FKM UMJ  students took part in a series of activities and actively participated in various plenary sessions and parallel sessionswith very interesting sub-topics. The event began with a conference to the media led by Filda C. Yusgiantoro as Chairperson of the Purnomo Yusgiantoro Center.

Keynote speech by the Chairman of the Monash Institute for Sustainable Development & Climate Works Center John Thwaites and a welcoming speech by Mr Arifin Tasrif as Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Republic of Indonesia.

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arifin Tasrif in his speech appreciated the organization of this event because according to him, implementing the energy transition in ASEAN and Indonesia requires collaboration with many partners and stakeholders.

"It is truly a pleasure for me to warmly welcome all participants, as part of the event of Indonesia's Chairmanship in ASEAN. "To the participants who attend, they can participate actively and have constructive involvement in this conference," said Arifin.

Participants took part in a Plenary Session which discussed goals from five perspectives, namely human resources, energy, education, transportation and industry. This discussion aims to provide the latest insights and findings regarding the strategies of well-known experts from various points of view.

This activity aims to educate participants about the importance of supply and demand side collaboration to create an inclusive energy transition roadmap, especially in ASEAN and Indonesia in particular.

Also present was Nadiem Makarim as Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia. Nadiem discussed my human source perspective and the educational perspective, which discussed the transformation of the ASEAN education system towards a just transition. 

According to him, education for a just transition must emphasize the importance of teachers and students as agents of transformation. This is intended to encourage critical educational practices and approaches that can support the transition to a low-carbon economy and that respect the characteristics of justice, which include equality, fairness and justice to build a curriculum that supports sustainable growth.

Also present was the Minister of Education of Singapore, Mr. Chan Chun Sing who participated in discussing issues in the world of education at the plenary session. The delegation from FKM UMJ was entrusted to take part in the discussion regarding Human Resources (HR) in the Plenary session.

Dimas Imam Prayogo, one of the delegates from FKM UMJ students, said, "With this conference it is becoming clearer that the government has made efforts to prepare human resources and we need to support this program. "Hopefully this collaborative effort can contribute to encouraging the energy transition not only in Indonesia," he said.

This event, which will take place from 15-16 September 2023 at the JS Luwansa Hotel, Jakarta, is also part of the 78th Mining and Energy Anniversary series. PYC IEC 2023 is the 4th international energy conference activity which has been regularly held biennially by PYC since 2017.

This conference activity brings together various stakeholders in the energy sector on a local and international scale, including students, researchers, experts or energy specialists, the private sector and government representatives. These stakeholders were present to discuss energy issues at the global, ASEAN regional and local Indonesian levels.
