Abdul Mu'ti: Scroll Society Becomes Society's New Culture
In an era of increasingly advanced technology, society has a new culture, namely the scroll society . This era makes people just scroll through information without understanding the meaning of the reading, and no analysis process takes place. This quote was conveyed by the Head of the Daily Advisory Board (BPH) as well as the General Secretary of the Muhammadiyah Central Leadership (PP), Prof. Dr. Abdul Mu'ti, M.Ed., at the PP Muhammadiyah recitation activity which was held online, Friday, (22/09/2023).
“Our theme in this recitation is digital piety. How do we build and strengthen da'wah and ukhuwah through social media. We deliberately discussed this theme for several reasons. One of them, PP Muhammadiyah pays serious attention to the dynamics and phenomena related to social media. "There is at least one important thing that has been published by PP Muhammadiyah, namely information jurisprudence," said Mu'ti.
Apart from information jurisprudence, the decisions of the 48th congress in Surakarta relating to strategic public issues are of primary concern. Digital piety is one of the studies carried out in strategic public issues. Mu'ti explained that this was indeed a serious problem in the context of the Muhammadiyah, nation and state.
The development of technology is estimated to mean that 75% of humans will be connected to the internet by 2025. This shows that humans have a network that is interconnected and unlimited. Of course, this increase also has an impact, especially on understanding of religion, civilization, culture between people and nations.
"One thing we can see is the tendency of digital technology to give rise to new phenomena which are sometimes used by people as a means of propaganda and as a means of being able to use media influence in the context of penetrating ideas, including those of a political nature. "Moreover, there is news on social media that is difficult to distinguish between hoax and fact, this is a deception for the public," said Mu'ti.
Furthermore, Mu'ti revealed that the Muslim brotherhood as a close-knit community has received extraordinary challenges in the era of social media. "What we need in the current era is a critical attitude and that critical attitude is the characteristic of ulul albab," he added.
In connection with the theme, who is also a lecturer at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) UMJ, said that there are 800,000 hoax spreading sites in Indonesia. "In building aspects of piety using social media, there are 4 urgencies, namely the crisis of civility, erosion of morality, instant life, and internet overdose," said Makroen.
Also present were the Director of Media Kernels Indonesia (Drone Emprit), Ismail Fahmi, Ph.D., who discussed building ukhuwah and da'wah through social media, and young influencers and members of the PP Muhammadiyah Library and Information board leadership, Fahd Pahdepie, MA. This routine PP Muhammadiyah recitation was attended by more than 170 participants from all over the archipelago.
